HAWKS PRARIE DOG PARK COMING OCTOBER 2010
Groundbreaking for Dog Park Pleases Canines and Humans.
More than 40 people and 30 dogs of all sizes were in attendance at the October 16th groundbreaking ceremony for Thurston County’s first off-leash dog park at the site located near the county’s Waste and Recovery Center at Hawks Prairie.
Scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, the six-acre facility will feature areas for large and small dogs. The estimated cost of $200,000 will be met with Beneficial Landfill Reuse funds. No revenue from tipping fees or the general operating fund will be used for the project. Park construction will include installation of water stations, paths, and fencing. The admission-free park will be located south of the current HazoHouse and next to a demonstration garden maintained by the Washington State University Thurston County Extension program. Questions about the project can be directed to the Public Works office at 754-4580.
